Not My Bow Tie

Posted in :  Diversions

Everyone knows that this economy stinks, but I think I am holding in my hands proof that it is still in the toilet.

bowtie

Yes, it is still larger than a glazed doughnut and tastes the same, but this David is seriously like 30% smaller than the Goliath bow tie I am used to getting. Is it a mere fluke, was there a rookie in the bakery this morning? Or is this a new mandate by D&D to make more money. Wouldn’t surprise me. My 40 pound bag of dog food is now 37.5 pounds and the price is like $12 more than I payed a year or so ago.

I cannot stand this tactic by companies to try and pretend like they aren’t screwing us. I could deal with all the extra air in my chips bags because they’ve been doing that forever. This is just going to far. When should I expect the Munchkins to be the size of a ball baring?

When all this price gouging was going on EVERYONE blamed the price of gas. Well, the price of gas is down like 35% from last year and has been down for awhile. When are our product prices going to go back down? Am I the only one who has had this though cross their feeble mind?

Plus, now gas is starting to inch up again and they are saying it is still going to go up. Are retailers going to use the gas excuse again to raise their prices?

  3. This post made me laugh! I have thought about this too. Has anyone noticed that the noodles in hamburger helper doesn’t even feed one person? Or that the spaghetti sauce in a jar is just not enough…now you’ve gotta buy two cans to cover the pasta?

I think we should start a revolution! Stop buying food for one day or two and see if that sends a message! Food companies are making more money and I’m making less. So, I am trying to figure out ways to keep my grocery bill down and still maintain a healthy diet. Anyone got suggestions? Sure, it’s easy to buy the partially hydrogenated crap that they offer, but harder to buy fresh veggies, healthy snacks, etc. cuz they’re outrageously priced! The food industry is starving us! — and we’re getting fatter?!?!?! I’m confused.

  5. Yes, they did the same thing to the coffee rolls…I guess we are getting euro sized portions with all the euro socialism we are importing as of recent times ;-)

  7. Joe,

Couldn’t agree more! D & D is absolutely serving smaller portions. Their muffins seem to be 20-30% smaller as one example. Used to be hard to close the box on a dozen and it’s easier now. Bigger box… I don’t think so.

I also got a double cheese burger at McD’s today and it was $1.29 where what seemed like a couple of months ago they were on the dollar menu.

    I suspect it’s happening everywhere.

  9. Even the Girl Scouts are doing it with their cookies. More packaging and less cookies! Geesh.

Lisa – I suggest Aldi for grocery shopping. Not a big selection, but if they have your staples you’re all set. And it keeps me from buying the little crap that I pick up that is not on the list! Aldi has fresh fruits and veggies at very good prices, but again, not a huge selection, and of course not local or organic.

I get all of my meat and toiletries at Sam’s Club in bulk.
