Email Marketing Home Run

Today I received an email from photographer Steve Marsel. I don’t know him, never heard of him. In fact when I saw the email I couldn’t tell he was a photographer. Didn’t matter. The subject line, “David Ortiz Breaks Out!” hooked me. I’m a Red Sox fan (a Yankees fan may have reacted differently) and I’d seen Big Papi hit his walk off homer against the White Sox last night, so I had to open the email to see what was up.
Lo and behold, not only was there a photo of Ortiz (that Mr. Marsel had taken for Atari/Backyard Sports), [More...]

The New Regime: We The People

One of the first things George Gombossy will tell you these days is that his recent disappearance from The Hartford Courant is not about George Gombossy. He’s wrong about that. The story right now is all about Gombossy, due to CNN, NPR, The Huffington Post, The New York Times and others bringing the nuts and bolts of what’s transpired to light (sans any comment from the Courant which has yet to appear with Gombossy or give their side of the story).

Crunchy on the outside, soft and squishy on the inside. What Not-for-profit organizations and big business can learn from each other.
Not-for-profit organizations have traditionally looked to fulfill their missions of positive impact on humanity first, and sustainable funding, post initial endowment, second. By design, profit tends to be a primary tenet and mission of corporations, while having a positive impact on humanity fits somewhere in the background, if at all.
My final words…
If you’re reading this, you probably read my blog post written on June 16, 2009. It was in many ways a testament to my dad. It was written on his 84th birthday.
A lot has changed in my life since that day. I’ve decided to leave Fathom and take on the challenge of growing an association that serves non-profits. It’s a big change for me, and I’m relishing the upcoming challenge. This will be my final post as a Fathom employee. I will soon become the COO of The Alliance for Non-profit Growth and Opportunity. The value of surprise

I had to exchange a pair of running shoes last week because they were a little small. Same brand, same style, same size as last time - but my toes were hitting the end when I ran.
After making sure I indeed needed a larger size by running in them a couple more times, I called up Road Runner Sports on day 60 of the 60 day return window to exchange the 9.5s for 10s. All the while thinking that maybe I should go back to buying at a store - where I can make sure each new model is sized [More...]
