“Operation Home for the Holidays” Party Raised $12,000+ And Is Still Going!
In October, CT Governor Jodi M. Rell announced the “Operation Home for the Holidays” initiative to raise money for 700 CT National Guard troops who are being deployed in January 2010 to Afghanistan. The troops will be stationed in Wisconsin and Indiana until their deployment and, while they will have a holiday break, there are no funds to get them home to Connecticut to spend time with their families.
On November 14, 2009, Lisa Davenport’s Home Gallery warehouse in Marlborough, CT was transformed from funky, cool show room to fundraising central as 250 guests, organizers and supporters banded together to raise $12,000+ (!) during an open house party filled with complimentary lunch from Agave Grill, meet and greets with our CT National Guard troops, raffle and auction prizes, fun games for the kids and a TON of people coming out to show their support.
The event, produced by organizers Fathom, Lisa Davenport’s Home Gallery, CT TweetCrawl, with Agave Grill, was only possible because of every volunteer who chipped in to make the day a success. From the social media talkies of CT TweetCrawl (and friends of CT TweetCrawl) to local businesses who donated raffle and auction items, and Ann Nyberg and Damon Scott who donated their time to MC and promote the event to Enza Dandeneau and the Marlborough Business Association who helped us organize every last detail. I will reserve the official thank you list for another post - it’s a book! - but for now, I want those who could not participate in the party to know that they can still help.
To donate online using Paypal, use the payment widget in this post. To donate via check, make the checks payable to CTNGFI and send to us at Fathom and we will add it to the mounting pile: 100 Allyn Street, Floor 2, Hartford, CT 06103.
Help support Connecticut troops. For all that they do for us, ensuring they can spend time with their families during the holiday season is so little to ask.
